Rapid Prototyping Test Bed of MPPT Photovoltaic Controller Based on Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Models

Abstract


Allowing real-time testing of software functions on a hardware target; rapid prototyping provides a responsive and cost-effective method for evaluating different solutions and validating a given design. In this paper, the design and the development of an experimental rapid prototyping platform are presented. This platform will be exploited in the study of the TakagiSugeno fuzzy control ("TS-fuzzy ") enabling the Maximum Power Point Tracker (MPPT) of photovoltaic (PV) systems, which plays a very important role in obtaining the maximum power of a solar panel because it ensures optimal operation of a photovoltaic system, regardless the conditions of irradiation and temperature. In this study, the platform is composed of three elements in its material target part: the photovoltaic emulator (PVE), PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) generator and a Buck-Boost converter. Matlab/Simulink software provides the control signal via an acquisition card. The different steps in design, simulation and realization of the TS- Fuzzy logic controller are discussed. The experimental results obtained show that the MPPT "TS-Fuzzy" control, implemented by rapid prototyping in a PV system, can extract successfully the maximum power for various values of solar radiation. In addition, these results keep-up the good performance of the controller and validate its efficiency.
