Abstract

Projectile ricochet off water is used for both offensive and defensive purposes in military and naval warfare. Analysis of ricochet of conical nose shaped projectile is compared to that of flat skipping stones. The critical velocity model for projectile ricochet is derived on the basis of this. The number of bounces of a projectile is obtained by considering the energy loss in each bounce. A realistic approach is applied to find the number of bounces considering the fact that at each entry, the angle of impact has to satisfy the critical angle condition.
