Abstract

Induction motors are commonly used in industry because of their reliable performance. Most of the induction motors are used in inverter based drives arrangements in industries. Although, Induction motors are highly reliable, they are vulnerable to numerous faults that can result severe damage in terms of production shutdowns, break down of the equipment and hazardous to the users. So it is required to detect faults at its preliminary level to avoid absolute failure of the system and also unpredicted production costs. In this paper, various faults that could occur at the voltage source inverter fed induction motor and their consequences on its performance are analysed.
