Simulation of Electromagnetic Interference and its Mitigation in an Induction Motor Drive

Abstract


This paper analyses the EMI issues associated with an induction motor drive circuit using IGBTs. The high frequency equivalent circuit of IGBT is modelled in MATLAB software and the waveforms plotted are corroborated with data sheet waveforms. A variable speed induction motor drive with six such IGBT sub system as the switching units is developed. The conducted EMI voltage is obtained with a Line Impedance Stabilization Network (LISN) between the EMI source and the power supplies. The measured values are compared with CISPR conducted emission limits. A filter is designed to eliminate the interference due to conducted EMI.
