Abstract

The performance of designed linear controller in a highly nonlinear power system is always be a doubtful. This paper presents a new load frequency control methodology in a multi area deregulated power system using discrete optimal sliding mode controller. This proposed control strategy shall take care of nonlinearities, uncertainties and chaos of the system. The performance of the proposed controller is tested on two area thermal-thermal and hydro-thermal deregulated power systems including bilateral contracts. The performance of proposed discrete optimal sliding mode controller is compared with discrete PI controller.
