Behavior of Composite Bolted Joint Under Tension-Shear and Compression-Shear Load Cases

Abstract


Composite materials are widely used to derive benefits such as improved performance of gadgets and machines by reducing weight. While connecting composite parts, bolted connections are preferred. This paper discusses the performance analysis of composite bolted connections based on peak load and stiffness for the two load cases, tension-shear and compression-shear loading. Experimental research on the behavior of the joint has led to the development of regression equations that can forecast the peak load and stiffness of the connection. The predicted and experimental responses have a reasonable correlation. The regression models were validated using additional experiments. Desirability function analysis was done to identify the optimum parameter settings to enhance the responses to the applied loadings. The results of the desirability function analysis were verified through the Taguchi analysis of S/N ratios.
