A Note on SDRE Control Applied in the Fermentation Reactor

Abstract


In this work, the dynamic behaviour of a bioreactor model designed for fermentation processes is investigated. The production of ethanol is presented analyzing the temperature of the fermenter, which is controlled by the flow of the cooling fluid (water) which passes through the jacket of the fermenter. A dynamical analysis of the process is carried out for the uncontrolled system (open loop system), where there is no temperature control in the cooling fluid stream (water) at the desired levels. In addition, the same dynamical analysis is performed to the system subjected to the temperature control signal, controlling the refrigerant flow temperature (closed loop system) through the fermenter jacket. To account the non-linearities for the mathematical model, the proposed control project used the non-linear control SDRE (State-Dependent Riccati Equation). Numerical and computational simulations demonstrated that the proposed control is efficient in maintaining the temperature at the desired levels and it is resistant to parametric variations.
