Abstract

The paper considers the problems connected with the periodic variation of the tooth stiffness during the engagement in a spur gear train that arise due to the different number of teeth involved in torque transmission. Thus, the process of engagement is accompanied by a redistribution of the dynamic forces between the teeth at the boundaries of the engagement phases from the one-pair contact to the double-pair contact. As a result, it can cause forced and parametric vibrations. The dynamic mesh forces caused by kinematic error and time variable mesh stiffness are associated with the periodic mesh of the teeth. It is further shown that the load on the meshing pairs of teeth can be several times higher than the nominal forces. As a result, the operation of a machine is accompanied by high level of noise and vibration.
