Abstract

The present paper investigates the adsorptive studies of exhaust gas removal system from a stationary C I engine. The models of diesel particulate filters are designed with two different aspect ratios (Big and Small) for the adsorptive removal of diesel exhausts. The effect of filters used on the engine and the adsorptive performance of filters are investigated for different polluting gases HC, CO, CO2 coming out by diesel exhausts using silica, activated carbon and zeolites eco-friendly adsorbents. In the present study, some commercially available common adsorbents are selected. The study shows that activated carbon, silica gel and zeolite are able to control the exhaust emission. It is observed that the emission controlled by the activated carbon is up to 80% and for particulate matter (PM) silica gel filter showed the 65 % Control. The selected materials have the potential to be used as diesel particulate filter substrate materials.
