Abstract

This paper describes a new universal optimization and dimensioning tool for fins and array fins named UToFiDO which is an innovative code of a three in one package. According to the constraints of any cooling system which makes UToFIDO a decision making support system that guides the user to choose the appropriate design and dimensions for the optimal fin. The implemented model that simulates the thermal phenomena along the fins is based on an analytic solution of the differential equations where several boundaries conditions and The Murray–Gardner assumptions are applied within the heuristic optimization greedy method. The three family fins (longitudinal, radial and spine) are considered regarding to their primes surface (plane or radial). The package UToFiDO contains: The calculator part: allows simulating the heat transfer along a fin under various boundary conditions. Compute, the temperature evolution fin, their total heat dissipated, efficiency and effectiveness. The optimization part: guides in searching and optimally selecting a fin form and dimensions. The fin array part: allows specifying the appropriate Fin Array required in the cooling system. It determines their optimal number and spacing. The obtained code has shown satisfactory results according to practical facts.
