Abstract

A new empirical correlation was suggested to obtain the bundle effect of tandem tubes. The variations of tube pitch, elevation angle, and heat flux of a lower tube were selected as major parameters. For the test, two smooth stainless steel tubes of 19 mm diameter and the water at atmospheric pressure were used. The bundle effect is clearly observed when the heat flux of the lower tube is higher than that of the upper tube. The decrease in the pitch and the increase in the angle increase the bundle effect. The newly developed correlation predicts the experimental data within ±10 %.
