Abstract

The gas jet on a liquid bath was studied using numerical simulation which aims to get a better understanding of the behavior of the gas jet used in the metallurgical industry. The flow of gas and liquid were simulated using the method VOF « Volume of Fluid » and k-ε model for turbulence to give an overview of the deformation caused by the liquid jet. For this, the Fluent CFD software has been used. The results were validated with experimental data as well as modeling results published in previous studies. The simulation allows the simultaneous evaluation of the field of gas flow, the free surface of the liquid, and the flow inside the liquid bath, and gives a very useful overview of the most complex phenomena occurring in a BOF.
