Abstract

This work deals with an experimental flow analysis of the first Brazilian vertical slot fishway using flow velocity measurements obtained from the facility reduced model and prototype. A fishway reduced model at 1:20 scale is specially devised to evaluate the flow conditions in laboratory. The reduced model flow velocity fields are compared with those obtained from the measurements taken from the prototype to perform the model validation. The experimental flow velocity fields rendered in this work permit not only to analyze the fishway flow characteristics but also to evaluate feasible changes on vertical slot fishways capable of improving their efficiency.
