Abstract

Problems which are associated with traditional sources of energy and fossil fuels like high costs (including both environmental and financial costs), unreliable resources for long term use and extensive negative impact on our environment has forced us to move toward implementation of renewable sources of energy. In current study, an economical evaluation for off-shore wind farm development in Chabahar- Iran is done by using long term wind data. The evaluation is performed by recruiting Homer Software for simulating renewable energy power plants. The software is implemented in National Renewable Energies Lab in Iran. The average wind speed is observed to be 4.11 m/s in a height of 10 m for the area. Considering the data for monthly average wind speed and Cumulative Frequency Diagram (CFD) of the data and the annual and monthly rates of power generation; it is shown that power generation is feasible throughout the year in this area. In this case, a Vestas V112-M3.3 wind turbine with a nominal power of 3.3 MW and hub height of 84 m can generate 6.021 GWh of electricity. The electricity generation cost is 0.048 US Dollars for each kWh while the capacity factor is 20.8.
