Abstract

The induced vibrations from the operation of a railway system can cause annoyance to human and possible damage to the load bearing system of a monument. Appropriately designed track specially associated with trains in tunnels is applied in order to eliminate the amplitude of transmitted vibrations. The efficiency of the implementation of certain criteria is examined comparing theoretical model evaluation & numerical experimental tests from an extensive monitoring program carried out during the regular operation of Athens Metro at the vicinity of Kapnikarea church. From the results it is evident that numerical analysis leads to a very reliable prediction of the response of a monument.
