Abstract

The combined economic and emission short-term hydrothermal scheduling is a multi-objective complex generation scheduling problem. This involves an hour-by-hour scheduling of all generating units of the system to achieve minimum fuel cost and emission from thermal plants for the given time period. This paper presents an incremental cost based scheduling algorithm for combined economic and emission short-term hydrothermal problem using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). A multi-objective problem is converted into a single objective one using modified price penalty factor. The effectiveness of the proposed method is tested with a sample test system consisting of three thermal and one hydro unit and the results obtained are compared with the classical method.
