Abstract

The frequency-domain characteristics of transient earth voltages (TEVs) aroused by partial discharge (PD) in switchgears are analysed. The Finite Integration Theory (FIT) was employed to simulate the impacts of the sizes of a switchgear and its slot on the TEV signal spectrum. The simulation results show that the switchgear size and internal structure have significant effects on the frequency distribution of TEV signals, and the TEV signal spectrum is closely related to the resonant frequency of the switchgear. The slot size and direction of the PD current have effects on the intensity of the TEV signal spectrum, but have little effects on the frequency distribution of TEV signals.
