Abstract

The paper investigates space vector PWM (SVPWM) control technique for a symmetrical two-phase induction motor (STPIM) when supplied from two different types of solid state converter drives; a voltage source inverter (VSI) drive and a matrix converter (MC) drive. Each motor-converter drive behavior is investigated for the following performance indicators: current total harmonic distortion (THD) and the motor ripple torque. For the VSI drives, the DC interlink voltage is also investigated. Computer simulations for the motor-converter system are generated for the converter generated voltages, motor currents and the speed-torque characteristics. Simulations results are validated by via comparison with experimental results.
