Abstract

This paper exposes the simulation plus the development of prototype model for analysis of 5-level neutral point clamped (NPC) inverter fed medium voltage induction motor drive for industrial applications. The improvement of prototype model illustrates the flexibility of the multilevel z-source inverter to found a perfect AC voltage from more than a few levels of DC voltages with minor harmonic content. The z-source network is placed to unite the input DC source and the inverter to accomplish the buck-boost capability. The different multi-carrier PWM strategies have been analyzed and numerous interesting characteristics have been revealed. The Direct Torque Control (DTC) method has been most popular approach to control the dynamic performance parameters of induction motor drive has also been presented in this paper. The outcome of this paper shows that, the developed prototype model will bridges the existing research gap between theoretical and practical implementation of multilevel z-source inverters for medium voltage industrial applications. The adequate and enhanced performance of multilevel z-source inverters has demonstrated through test results under different operating circumstances and the effort has been made to authenticate the effectiveness the simulation and hardware implementation of the proposed inverter topology.
