Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to present the performance of the H-infinity controller application to the multi-input multi-output (MIMO) nonlinear model of a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM). In large scale power system, quick damping of system oscillations are necessary as it may lead to complete breakdown of the system. A detailed mathematical model of single machine and multi-machine power system with STATCOM is carried out and the H-infinity control technique is applied to damp quickly these oscillations under various faulted operating conditions. The simulation results show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control schemes compared to conventional PI controller tuned by Genetic Algorithm (GA)
