Abstract

The active power filters, APFs, can be used as a practical solution to solve the problems caused by the lack of electric power quality. One of the most discussed software part (in the case of DSP implementation) of an active filter is the harmonic detection method.  In this paper, a comparison study of three harmonic detection methods for a shunt active power filter that are synchronous reference frame method, notch filter detection method, and PQ method. The compensation characteristics of each algorithm with the respective control scheme are proved experimentally and we examine the impacts of active filter parameters in reducing harmonics distortion are study
