Abstract

The Electrocardiogram signals (ECG) are often contaminated by several noises such as Baseline Wander (BW) and the 50 or 60 Hz Power Line Interference (PLI). In this paper, we present an alternative application of the Wavelet Packet Transform (WPT) in order to remove these two major sources of noises. The ECG signals used for test are obtained from MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database. The study indicates that WPT performs good results in comparison with conventional filters. Indeed, the morphology of normal and abnormal ECG signals is maintained. The maximum values obtained for COR and PRD are about 100% and 0.396% respectively.
