Abstract

A fast and effective codebook model (CBM) is proposed to reduce the effect of moving backgrounds and shadows on foreground–background segmentation. A new codebook training strategy is introduced in hue, saturation, and value (HSV) color space to accelerate the training speed. During the foreground detection process, shadow suppression and CBM are combined. Qualitative and quantitative experiments revealed that the proposed model can effectively reduce training time and detect true objects against complex background.
