Abstract

The economic and social growth of any country depends upon the energy availability as there is a direct relationship between the level of economic growth and per capita energy usage. There is a sharp increase in the demand of energy due to modern technology, population growth etc. The world is shifting towards the non-conventional sources of energy such as solar energy, wind energy etc. owing to high rate of conventional sources of energy and environmental concerns. Pakistan is a highly affected country due to its energy dependence on imported fuels which results in the shape of energy short fall and their consumers have been facing load shedding since last two decades. This paper presents the various studies about the available renewable energy sources and their integration specifically solar based Distributed Generation (DG) units in Pakistan and their utilization. The use of Micro Grid (MG) at low and medium voltage levels reduces the size of conventional large networks into smaller networks that can be easily managed and controlled, ensuring the continuous and reliable supply of power.
