Abstract

The economies within the Gulf Cooperation Council countries (GCC), depend greatly upon hydrocarbons. The flourishing population demands and expansion of industrial sectors demanded escalated energy. The hydrocarbon resources are being used abundantly, causing a looming shortage, which is accompanied by damaging effects on the climate and environment. Renewable energy became strategic policies to cope with the energy economics. While there are some general concerns that each country shares, the challenges and opportunities that exist for each country may differ from one to the next. Hydrocarbon remains the major supplier of energy. While the energy price is increasing and global economy became subjected to a challenge. Then there were increasing concern to find alternative for renewable energy to sustain any shortage in the energy supplies. In this paper; the discussion would centralize on the requirement of alternative energy for GCC countries. Research and development approaches studies and deploying alternative energy technologies will be furthered discussed, in order for resources to be highlighted, potential prospects for developing these technologies within the countries will need to be addressed. This approach will help to outline the different types of limitations and complementateries for these resources exist, and indicate if integrating global experiences would be desirable for every one of the countries within the GCC
