Abstract

The paper presents a study performed in order to determine the optimum geometry and material properties of an electro-pneumatic device based on magnetic fluids (M F). The magnetic field inside the device is analyzed using the finite element method and the overall force is calculated using Maxwell's magnetic tensor and performing a numerical cuadrature. The results outline the dimensions and magnetic constants of the materials involved that render a maximum overall force transmitted by the proposed actuator.
