Abstract

Research of how atmospheric factors influence properties of fire coatings designed for protection of steel and wooden structures from flame was conducted. Experimental research carried out with fire coatings was reviewed. Natural and artificial ageing cycles were applied to fire coatings resulting in signs of destruction in fire coatings. During fire tests performed with steel plates having different fire coatings applied and subjected to ageing cycles, time to critical temperature of 500 °C was determined. The obtained results, decrease in coating fire resistance fairly matched the results of experiments carried out by other authors, in addition to that, dependence of the height of the protective layer in intumescent fire coating on the number of artificial ageing cycles was determined. Calorific values and residue values of timber treated with fire retardant solution depending on location used for natural ageing purposes (in a conditioning room, indoors, outdoors under the roof and outdoors on the roof) were determined.
