Abstract

The present work is a velocity field simulation of a cylindrical vessel agitated by a Rushton turbine (a disk with six flat blades).  The κ-ε turbulence model and hexaedric mesh were applied. The commercial CFD software Phoenics is used. The results derived from a progression of different degrees of complexity, started with a tutorial. The results point to a continuous velocity distribution, i.e., there are not sudden changes in the profile and they are almost symmetrical, which is important to the survival of many living organisms
