Abstract

PVC production processes on an industrial scale are generally based on the MVC of the polymerization reaction in suspension. However, what happens in most cases is that part of the unpolymerized MVC remains inside the particles of PVC. Currently, the plant producig PVC have tried to minimize the residual content of MVC in order to meet current legislation. One of alternatives has been to use a striping column with a vapor flowing water countercurrent for the slurry MVC. This paper presents experimental data from a stripping column on a pilot scale. The influences of operating parameters and geometry on the removal of the MVC are analyzed and modeling and simulation studies are also presented.
