Abstract

Architectural design is considered as the most important basic class in all architectural departments in Iraq. This gives a priority to the development of the teaching and learning process in these departments; hence, there are many architectural departments being established using the same classical techniques in teaching and learning. Thus, this research investigates architectural learning via studios technique, which is a critical issue in architectural departments and educational institutions in the developed countries. The architectural studio technique contributes to create an appropriate environment, generally, for increasing the creativity of students. This task progresses through intensive education and research. The theoretical questions are introduced to clarify concepts for students, regarding their own attitudes. They should also enhance their potentials in an optimistic way. Studio technique experiment has included the students of the third stage of the architecture department in the University of Samarra. The experiment has come within a project for designing a commercial center in Samarra City. It has been verified that the students have benefited from and have taken an adequate knowledge of this task. Discussions have also taken place for the students in order to assess their comprehension regarding the impact of the studio technique on their skills, creativity, and consent for such techniques, especially the ones that have passed their first and second stages with a classical model of education.
