Abstract

In classical soil mechanics engineers measure shear strains using different types of apparatus; the lateral strain in the soil has not been much studied. This article provides a study on the effect of development of lateral strain and reinforcement form on the shear strength and on the evolution of the mechanical characteristic of beach sand. The mechanical behave of composite material has been investigated thought varying the number of plastic layers, using plastic leaves reinforcement and the combination of the two forms. The results have demonstrated that the strength improvement is significantly affected by the form of the reinforcement and the behavior of reinforced sand is characterized by a relationship among the deviator stress, the angle of friction and the lateral strain.
