Abstract

Peat has the disadvantages characteristics when used as sub-grade of construction. The embankment on peat can improve the soil parameters. The height and duration of embankment affect the stability and settlement. The excessive settlement makes embankment addition unfeasible as it may lead to failure of embankment construction, thus analysis of settlement estimation is necessary to identify the correct timing in performing addition of embankment construction and the correct height required to generate sufficient compression of peat soil. Small-scale laboratory study to measure settlement was conducted by applying embankment on reinforced and unreinforced peat. The calculation to estimate the settlement was conducted using the hyperbolic method. Parameter intersection and slope of the linear line of the method can be utilized to estimate settlement at certain height and points of time. The result of this study can be utilized as a reference in determining load stages in the application of embankment on peat soil.
