Abstract

This paper presents a diagnosis of adequacy to safety issues in churches in the region of Curitba PR, known world wide as the Brazilian’s green capital. Specifically the study investigates fire risk and the infrastructure for risk situations. Trough a field research presenting a questionnaire to the responsible for each church selected, the safety condition of the churches was analyzed. The questionnaire answers were related to the current standards by pointing the service or not to each requirement. As a result an overview of the safety status of the churches in the green Capital was obtained. Major deficiencies in safety were found in most of the churches surveyed, demonstrating the failure of the local fire department and authorities for the safety in religious temples
