Abstract
This paper presents a small size broadband microstrip patch antenna with Ü– slot for wireless communications bands. This new structure is fed by a fully coaxial feed. A parametric study of the proposed antenna is performed and the effect of the size of the slots on the return loss and radiation patterns, and gain have been investigated. The structure benefits from size reduction due to the use of coaxial feed. The bandwidth of microstrip patch antenna is increased significantly with this structure. Good radiation characteristics with less than -43 dB return loss are observed at 4.25 GHz resonant frequency. This antenna has applicable range of frequency from 3.66 GHz to 4.41 GHz. Having simple and small structure, it is expected to be used in several applications especially in the WLAN/WiMAX portable wireless devices.
