Building an Arduino Based Computer Numerical Control Router

Abstract


Internet of Things has been applied in many applications such as smart electricity metering, health monitoring, animal health monitoring, warehouse management, building energy management, agriculture greenhouse produces and many others. It also has the potential to improve production as well as provide lower cost to self-development of customized Computer Numerical Control (CNC) routers for small scale manufacturing for different applications. A CNC router is computer controlled that allows manufacturing of different designs with high accuracy and efficiency. CNC machines are used in many industries, including but not limited to manufacturing, automation, electronics, prototyping, and research. Operating under computer control, CNC machines can create precise and complex parts efficiently, thus forming a cornerstone of modern industries. CNC machines have high cost as well as are not easily available. To address these challenges, we have proposed steps that can help develop a low-cost CNC machine. This machine utilizes an Arduino UNO microcontroller and GRBL software to manipulate the displacement and movement of a plasma cutter. The developed system can benefit educational institutions, small-scale manufacturing enterprises, hobbyists and holds potential for various applications, enhancing its value and scope.
