Abstract

This paper presents investigation of effects of input current harmonics, sub harmonics and inter harmonics generated by double stage conversion of ac/ac on the induction motor drive. It investigates about the propagation of a disturbance in the inverter dc input current originated by imbalance in motor currents from the inverter to the rectifier side  and appears as sub & inter harmonics along with harmonic distortion in the input current. Particular emphasis is done on these input harmonic currents given to the stator of 5HP induction motor drive. The performance of the induction motor drive is analyzed with the presence of the harmonics in supply current and distortions in the speed and torque waveforms are found. Mitigation methods for these harmonics, subharmonics and interharmonics components are suggested and effectiveness of proposed compensation techniques is obtained by simulation studies in the MATLAB/SIMULINK environment.
