Optimization of a Wafer Conveyor Spool for Plastic Injection Molding Production

Abstract


In this study, it is aimed to achieve an optimum wafer spool among wafer conveyor spools made of three different food-grade thermoplastic materials for plastic injection molding production. For that purpose, an existing spool design created for machining, and a new spool design created for plastic injection molding production are analyzed by using the finite element method. These two designs are optimized by utilizing the response surface methodology, based on the criteria of minimizing the equivalent stress, deformation and mass. At the end of the detail comparison of new alternative spool designs having different materials according to their ranking scores obtained for both static structural and plastic molding analysis, the new spool design having the material of polypropylene is selected as a best design for plastic injection molding production.
