Abstract

Most academic institutions widely used Adaptive Hypermedia Systems (AHS). This trend aims to offer learning that adapts to individual and collective needs, whether to learn pace or content. In this article, we propose to establish a link between personalization and adaptation in learning, focusing particularly on e-learning. Personalization refers to the development of personalized learning activities for each learner in order to engage them in the learning process. With this, in the background, we present our study of personalization within AHS through the personalization of scenarios for different types of pedagogical activities for each learner profile after the determination of the learner profile on the basis of studies performed by Kolb. Then, we present the results of our use of the Learning Styles Instrument (LSI), a tool for determining Kolb’s learner profile and preferences, and the behavior of each learning style in different learning activities, as well as the modular architectures of different learning styles within a particular activity. The aim is to develop a learning system that is personalized and adaptive to learners’ needs, preferences and profiles throughout the learning process proposed by the system, by implementing pedagogical scenarios according to each type of activity.
