Dual-Band Decagonal Circular Patch Antenna with Complementary Split Ring Resonator on Ground Plane

Abstract


In this paper, investigations have been carried out in order to design a decagonal circular patch (DCP) antenna that works for dual-band applications. The proposed antenna consists of a decagonal circular patch on the top of the substrate and a complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) on the ground plane. It is operated at dual-bands 3.96 GHz, 4.93 GHz with reflection coefficient of -27 dB, -35 dB respectively. The impedance bandwidth of each band is 130 MHz (3.9–4.03 GHz), 370 MHz (4.81–5.17 GHz) respectively. The radiation characteristics are observed for dual-bands in both E-plane and H-plane. The gain is found above 5 dBi for two operating frequencies. DCP antenna empirical equations are proposed and validated. These two bands work for wireless communications at S-band and C-band applications.
