Abstract

Voltage source inverter is often used in electrical applications to supply a three-phase load with variable frequency and variable voltage, for which a suitable pulse width modulation (PWM) technique needs to be employed to get the desired output voltage on the line side of the inverter. In this work, MATLAB/SIMULINK models for sinusoidal PWM (SPWM) and Space Vector based PWM (SVPWM) based inverters are simulated, and their performances under various loading conditions have been carried out. The peak fundamental phase voltage and the harmonic distortion levels in line voltage are less in sine triangle PWM when compared with space vector PWM for certain types of loads while for some other types of loads, it is other way round
