Abstract

In general, distributed generating units are distributed throughout the power system closer to the loads. The normal distribution system delivers electric energy from a single source of power to a multitude of loads. Thus, several power quality issues arise when there are multitude sources. In this paper micro turbine generating unit is considered as distributed generating unit. Due to its high speed, the output frequency of the micro turbine generating unit is also high. Thus, it requires frequency converter to deliver power frequency (50/60HZ). In this paper matrix converter is interfaced to the micro turbine generating unit to deliver power frequency. The matrix converter is more compact due to omission of conventional rectifier-inverter interface structure. Simulation results are presented to validate the proposed scheme. The results showed that the output voltage of the distributed generating unit is improved satisfactorily
