Abstract

The steering axle of a heavy duty truck plays a vital role in maintaining the relative position of the front wheels with respect to each other. Apart from steering the wheels, it has to withstand the static and dynamic loads. For many automotive components, the primary mode of failure can be attributed to the fatigue damage resulting from the application of a variable amplitude loading. As such, in this paper, the fatigue life prediction of steering axle under variable amplitude loading is carried out using the Palmgren-Miner linear damage approach.
