Abstract

Pasargadae was the capital of the Achaemenid Empire, and it contains the Mausoleum of Cyrus the Great. This monument was designed with smoothed block of stones that were bonded to each other to form six layers with a chamber on the top. In this study, the Mausoleum of Cyrus the Great was taken into account on the viewpoints of earthquake aspects and provided reasons to indicate the tomb constructed with the aforementioned layers, which led to a Base Isolation System, being the earliest Base Isolation System quite straightforward. The tomb simulated by finite element software and it was analyzed with transient structural methods with a pretty much strong earthquake, regarding to Mercalli Intensity Scale. At the end of the paper is attempted to answer the reason of why the six stages were constructed.
