Abstract

A high power factor bridgeless flyback power-factor-correction (PFC) converter with synchronous rectifier (SR) is proposed in this paper. By eliminating an input bridge diode, the total number of components in conduction path is reduced and thus overall efficiency is improved. In addition, by replacing output diodes with SR, the efficiency improvement is achieved due to the reduced conduction loss on the SR. Since the proposed converter operates in discontinuous- conduction-mode (DCM), the SR is turned off under zero-current-switching (ZCS) condition. Moreover, since the input average current always follows the peak input current in DCM, high power factor (PF) is achieved for a wide range AC input. The operational principle and a steady-state analysis of the proposed converter are provided in detail. In order to verify the theoretical analysis, experimental results based on a 60W prototype at a constant switching frequency of 70 kHz are presented.
