Abstract
In recent years the nature of load has been changed significantly and a large number of electrical gears are running essentially at low power factor. Because of low power factor power supply companies have to generate more current which is theoretically required. This more current in our power networks needs to be decreased and an effort should be made for making these networks more energy handling with lower cost. This paper consists various methods for power loss reduction in distribution networks such as bifurcation of overloaded, overcrowded and lengthy networks, change of conductors in the networks where under sized conductors are used and connection of capacitor banks in the networks where desired for improving the power factor of the network and hence reduction in the power losses thus making the systems more energy handling with lower cost of energy. For this purpose 11 kV Bhitshah Sindh Pakistan feeder is chosen as a model.
