Abstract

This paper presents an innovative analytical model for the rectangular patch antenna. It is based on both classical and new concepts and leads to original formulas for all antenna parameters (resonance frequency, input resistance, efficiency, gain and bandwidth). The model was extensively tested by comparing its results to both numerical (FEM) simulations and measurements. When analyzing the RMS and peak discrepancies for a set of 128 antennas, the model appears to be equivalent (for one parameter), better (for three parameters) or much better (for the input impedance, which is the most critical design parameter) than the best available model.
