Abstract

This paper describes the design, characterization and implementation details of a digital encoded infrared sheet of light based beacon system for intelligent control of the public transportation system. The system consists of an encoded infrared sheet of light beacon, which can convey the current location and traffic information to the vehicles. The system is capable of receiving traffic status input through a GSM (Global System Mobile) modem. The vehicles have an infrared receiver and a processor capable of decoding the information, and generating the audio and video messages to the driver.
