Abstract

The aim of the study is to analyze the behavior of NDCT resting on a vertical pile foundation in prevailing soil conditions of the coastal areas. The behavior of NDCT has been carried out with twenty-seven types of shell thickness variation models. The methodology adopted is FEM analysis of NDCT superstructure alone and piling analysis using rivet theory. The tower was analyzed for wind loads as per the provision of IS 875, IS 11504 with an interference factor (IF) of 1.573. Piling analysis was carried out for load combinations 1.0DL + 1.0 WL and 1.0 DL + 1.5 DL. The findings showed that piling analysis using rivet theory underestimates the distribution of lateral forces on largely. Overall, the findings showed that the pile did supported reactions and indicated same value of horizontal loads on all piles. The maximum resultant deflection at each level along the height to the NDCT was poorer than the previous studies in superstructure model, this, in turn, would affect the moments & stresses in the shell.
